Birds Research (2022 – ongoing)

I have begun to address the urban bird population, considering ways in which their lives (and deaths) are invisible and visible in the public eye. I have been incorporating dead birds I find around Chicago into an archive of 3D scans that I have, processing the 3D objects, and then making physical prints of them.

I am considering what it means to enact care through conservation and preservationist lenses, and contending with the violence of data collection. Is the reconstruction of bird corpses a revival ritual of preservation? Does it serve to further the globalist flow of data whose very presence is furthering damage to our atmosphere? Even personally, can there be care in data collection?
I have been exploring bird textures, and how to represent these bodies digitally. You can find a wip website here.
